Bob Miller, Man for all Seasons

The text invite of Ito Curata  stated that "in spite of Bob's protestations to celebrate his birthday", the  party is going forward.

The invitees are friends of old - standing and some NFF (new found friends) who hopefully will stay and eventually become friends of old.   After all, friendship is a journey with a lot of twists and turns but if properly nourished, blooms into a lasting relationship.

Ito and Bob worked at the menu to make sure that it satisfied even the most discriminating palate.  Rest assured, the foie gras (both cooked and fresh), Beluga caviar, a whole array of French cheeses, and Moet Chandon didn't disappoint.  The hot dishes were a combination of Asian and Continental cuisine, every dish done to perfection.  To the un-informed, Ito Curata's talent does not stop in his design atelier but extends to his kitchen as well.  He can whip up a gourmet dinner that could put most chefs to a bout of culinary talent.

During his thank you speech, the usually stoic Bob showed us his emotional side as he recounted his life's journey with Ito 36 years ago!  That indeed is a record to brag about-longer than more marriages that we know of.  Little did they know that their serendipitous encounter at a club in San Francisco( where Bob was an executive in a bank and Ito was an up and coming couturier) would become a till-death-do-us-part kind of a commitment.  And 7 years ago, a wonderful blessing arrived in their lives- a bundle of joy, a baby boy who is now Taj Curata.  I am so proud to say that he is the youngest member of our Angel Network, (Angels to Street Kids), where we feed the marginalized children in many poor areas. Taj, at his young age, finds joy in helping these poor kids.

And the party went on and on-there was no stopping the guests from dancing to the contagious music of the band.

A toast to Bob Miller, a man for all Seasons, an American who loves his adopted country and us, his Filipino friends.  Bob, may you live to celebrate countless more birthdays with us. Thank you for enriching our lives in more ways than one, with your sincere friendship.

Happy Birthday, Bob Miller!

Kung Hei Fat Choy Celebration at Discovery Suites

Discovery Leisure Company's top honcho guys-dynamic COO Jun Parreno, David Pardo de Ayala, GM of the soon- to- open Primea Hotel and Residences and Leeds Trompeta, GM of Discovery Suites -were all present to welcome the guests for their Year of the Wooden Horse celebration. I arrived promptly at 6 PM, and was happy to be an early bird as the Peking Duck was warm and crisp and I enjoyed every sumptuous bite of it!

Excitement was building as more and more invitees poured in. My group of friends soon arrived and joined me in enjoying the delicious Chinese dishes in the different pagoda booths.  The suckling pig and Peking duck were instant faves.

The program started with a welcome greeting from Leeds Trompeta, GM of Discovery Suites followed by a speech by John Tiu, President of Discovery World.  The highlights of the program were the traditional Taoist blessings from Feng Shui Master Joseph Chau,   the Dragon and Lion dances and the Dragon Eye Dotting ceremony.   The stage was a sea of reds and yellows with the colorful Dragon and Lion.  Fireworks capped the program, welcoming the official onset of the Year of the Wooden Horse.

After the program, we went back to the lobby for a drink or two, before calling it a night.  Kudos to John Parreno and his staff for the detailed planning of the entire event. The cuisine, the drinks, the program, the lobby decor were all world class.  Not to forget the impeccable service with a smile-which is the trademark of every Discovery Leisure property.

Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy year of the Wooden Horse!
